Roncesvalles
The Spanish counterpart to the first section of the Camino Francés from Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port.
A private transfer from Bilbao Airport (BIO) to Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port, the traditional starting point of the French Way of the Camino de Santiago. The journey covers approximately 195 km and crosses from Spain into France via the Dantxarinea or Arnéguy border area. As an internal Schengen border, there is normally no fixed passport control. The service is private, with a driver and a fixed price confirmed at booking.
This is an international airport transfer rather than a domestic Spanish journey. The vehicle crosses into France during the route, but the border crossing is included in the quoted transfer price. Spain and France are both part of the Schengen Area, so there is no fixed passport checkpoint at the internal border. However, occasional internal border checks can be reinstated, making it advisable to keep your DNI or passport readily available.
The transfer is arranged as a private vehicle-with-driver service, with the complete journey to Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port covered by the agreed price. The destination is particularly relevant for travellers beginning the Camino Francés, but the service can also be used when visiting the town itself.

Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port is more than a departure point for the Camino Francés. The town has a historic centre, the River Nive, the Porte Notre-Dame and a 17th-century fortified citadel associated with Vauban. Where you want to be dropped off therefore depends on the purpose of your visit. If you are travelling to begin the Camino, the pilgrim office and access to the historic centre may be the most relevant destination; if you are visiting the citadel, a nearby parking area may be more practical.
Tell us your intended destination when you make the booking so the drop-off point can be arranged according to your plans.
Travellers using Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port as the starting point for the Camino should also be aware of the seasonal conditions on the route towards Roncesvalles. The Napoleon Route, the mountain trail over the Ibañeta area, officially closes from 1 November to 31 March. During this period, the route to Roncesvalles follows the Valcarlos road instead.
This seasonal restriction does not prevent the private vehicle transfer from Bilbao Airport to Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port itself. It matters if your plan is to arrive in Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port and begin walking towards Roncesvalles the following day.

There is normally no fixed passport control because the border is an internal Schengen border. However, Spain and France can reinstate occasional internal border checks, so you should carry your DNI or passport with you.
Yes. The fixed price covers the complete journey to Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port in France, with no additional charge for crossing the border.
It is a private vehicle-with-driver service (VT or VTC), rather than a metered taxi. The price is fixed per vehicle and journey, is known when you book and does not change because the route crosses the border.
Indicative prices start from €343 per vehicle for 1–4 passengers and from €411 per vehicle for 5–8 passengers. The quoted price is per vehicle and journey.
The route is approximately 195 km and takes around 2 hours 18 minutes by private transfer.
