Leave El Prat and head south
The first stage includes metropolitan traffic around Barcelona before the route settles into the Barcelona–Tarragona corridor.
A private airport transfer covering approximately 256 km from Barcelona-El Prat to Castellón de la Plana. Allow around 2 h 30 min to 2 h 50 min for the road journey. Your final address matters: Castellón city centre, the railway station, an outlying address and the Grao require different final approaches. The transfer price starts from €360.
The route leaves the Barcelona metropolitan area towards Tarragona, continues through the Terres de l’Ebre and enters the Province of Castellón along the same major coastal corridor linking Catalonia with the Valencian Community. The AP-7 and N-340 are key road references for the journey and for reaching Castellón de la Plana.
The first stage includes metropolitan traffic around Barcelona before the route settles into the Barcelona–Tarragona corridor.
This is a continuous long-distance journey rather than a short coastal connection from Barcelona. After Tarragona, a substantial part of the trip still remains.
The most appropriate final approach depends on whether the booked address is in the city, near the railway station or in the Grao maritime district.
Traffic around Barcelona, incidents on the AP-7 corridor, holiday periods and traffic approaching Castellón can extend the journey. On a route of more than 250 km, it is more useful to allow a margin than to plan around the quickest possible journey time.
Barcelona-El Prat handles flights through T1 and T2. Providing your flight number helps identify the correct terminal before the long-distance journey to Castellón begins.
Aena places the R2 Nord station at T2. Passengers arriving at T1 need to use the free terminal shuttle before starting that rail option.
Castellón de la Plana and the Grao belong to the same municipality but are physically separate destinations. The Grao maritime district is approximately four kilometres from the main urban centre. A hotel around the port, a property in the Grao or accommodation near the beaches therefore requires a different final approach from an address in central Castellón.
For hotels, homes, the university, offices or other central addresses, the transfer ends at the booked street address within the city.
The Grao has its own access routes around the port, seafront, fish market, Club Náutico and accommodation in the area.
The coastal area forms part of the maritime district, so accommodation by the beach should not be planned as though the final stop were Plaza Mayor.
Castellón has a dedicated high-capacity access route towards its port. The CS-22 was designed as a direct connection between the N-340 and PortCastelló, which makes the final approach to the maritime district distinct from the route into the city centre.
If the hotel is beside the Club Náutico, on the seafront or in the Grao, the port access roads are relevant to the final section. Reaching the city centre first and then correcting the route towards the coast adds an unnecessary movement.
The hotel name, street and postcode distinguish an arrival at 12001 in central Castellón from one at 12100 in the Grao before the journey starts in Barcelona.
Rail is a relevant alternative on this route. Renfe operates Euromed and other Long-Distance services between Barcelona-Sants and Castelló. In 2026, Renfe increased the service to six Euromed trains per day in each direction on the València–Castelló–Barcelona corridor.
| Aspect | Private transfer | Euromed / train |
|---|---|---|
| Starting point | Pickup at T1 or T2 | Long-Distance departures leave from Barcelona-Sants |
| Airport connection | No transport change is required | You need to travel from El Prat to Sants before boarding the train |
| Arrival in Castellón | The booked address | Castelló railway station on carrer Pintor Oliet |
| Grao | The journey can finish directly in the maritime district | A further journey from the station is required |
| Luggage and groups | Vehicle capacity is selected when booking | Passengers handle their luggage during the connections |
Castellón is one of the routes where rail should be considered as a genuine alternative. Euromed provides frequent connections between Barcelona-Sants and Castelló. The practical differences are mainly the airport-to-Sants connection, the available timetable, the amount of luggage and the final journey from Castelló station to the booked address.
Castelló controls certain access points in the historic centre with number-plate recognition cameras. A door-to-door booking therefore remains subject to the municipal access rules and does not automatically mean that a vehicle can enter every restricted street.
The municipal system identifies restricted streets and allows specific access authorisations to be requested where applicable. Public car parks in the centre can be used without that specific restricted-access authorisation.
If the accommodation is inside the controlled area, it is worth checking whether the vehicle can reach the entrance or whether an authorised nearby drop-off point is more appropriate.
This is particularly relevant when travelling with several suitcases or passengers with reduced mobility.
On a journey of around two and a half hours, vehicle selection is not simply about counting available seats. Passenger numbers, suitcases, pushchairs, professional equipment and the need to keep a group together all affect the vehicle required.
A car can be sufficient for one, two or several passengers when the luggage remains within the vehicle's actual capacity.
Several suitcases, a pushchair or additional luggage can make available space more important than simply counting seats.
Teams, congress groups or larger parties travelling to the same address may prefer a collective vehicle so everyone remains together for the full journey.
The Province of Castellón contains many coastal destinations, but a booking to Castellón de la Plana should end in the municipality stated in the reservation. Benicàssim, Oropesa del Mar and other Costa Azahar locations require additional road travel and should be treated as separate destinations.
“Castellón” can refer to the city, the province or even the airport located outside the capital. This page specifically concerns transfers from Barcelona-El Prat to Castellón de la Plana.
A pickup in the Grao starts several kilometres further east than one in central Castellón. The return to Barcelona Airport therefore includes the initial section from the actual address, the AP-7 towards Catalonia, metropolitan traffic approaching Barcelona and the time required to reach T1 or T2.
That figure describes the road journey under reasonable conditions. For a flight, additional allowance is needed for possible traffic or road incidents and the airport time required for check-in, security and boarding.
Several cities and coastal areas lie between Barcelona and Castellón. Choosing the destination that matches your actual accommodation helps ensure that the relevant transfer page and final journey are used.
For journeys ending well before Castellón, in a Mediterranean provincial capital where the final destination may be the historic centre, railway station or urban coast.
A coastal holiday destination where Port, La Llosa and Vilafortuny can change the final section well before reaching the Valencian Community.
For a direct arrival at one of the Costa Daurada's main hotel areas rather than continuing along the Mediterranean corridor towards Castellón.
A destination further south near the Ebro Delta, but still north of the Province of Castellón.
For journeys continuing well beyond Castellón to a larger metropolitan area with its own access routes, stations and drop-off areas.
A much longer continuation of the Mediterranean corridor, requiring the journey to be treated as a full long-distance transfer.
A coastal destination much closer to Barcelona for travellers who do not need to continue as far as Tarragona city or Castellón.
A railway and beach destination north of Tarragona, suitable when the journey should end there rather than continuing along the Mediterranean corridor to Castellón.
An inland destination in the Camp de Tarragona, taking the journey away from the coastal corridor instead of continuing south towards Castellón.
A destination inland from Tarragona that leaves the Mediterranean route rather than continuing through the longer section towards Castellón.
No. The Grao is Castellón's maritime district and is physically separate from the main urban centre by approximately four kilometres. If your hotel is near the port or beaches, specify this when booking.
Not as a single service. The airport is connected by the R2 Nord, whose station is at T2, while Euromed services to Castelló depart from Barcelona-Sants. Rail travel therefore requires a connection between the airport and Sants first.
Yes. Renfe operates numerous Long-Distance services between Barcelona and Castelló. For travellers with limited luggage and a suitable timetable, rail can be a relevant alternative. The airport-to-Sants journey and the onward journey from Castelló station to the final address still need to be considered.
Not necessarily. Some streets in Castellón's historic centre have restricted access controlled by cameras. If your address is within the controlled area, the permitted access or drop-off point should be checked.
No. These are different municipalities and require additional road travel beyond Castellón. Using the actual accommodation address allows the distance, journey time, vehicle and fare to be calculated for the correct destination.
Castellón does not end at the first road sign announcing the city. If your luggage needs to finish beside the port in the Grao, near the railway station, on a street in the historic centre or at another specific address, provide that location from the outset. The Barcelona-El Prat transfer can then be planned around the actual destination rather than a generic point selected from the municipality name.
