Barcelona Airport to Tarragona: around 90 km via the AP-7, toll-free

A private transfer from Barcelona Airport (El Prat) to Tarragona covers around 90 km and takes roughly one hour, with most of the journey along the AP-7, which has been toll-free since 2021. When booking, it is important to specify your exact destination: the Roman city centre is different from Salou or PortAventura, while the cruise port and Part Alta each have their own access route. Indicative prices start from €120 for 1–4 passengers and from €148 for 5–8.

How pick-up works at Barcelona Airport

El Prat has two terminals several kilometres apart, so the meeting point depends on your flight. The process is the same for any destination.

  1. Book with your flight number and terminal (T1 or T2)Once we have your flight details, the driver monitors its status and adjusts the pick-up time if your flight arrives early or is delayed, so you do not need to let us know.
  2. Your driver waits for you in the arrivals hall with a welcome signMeet & greet service; the exact meeting point within your terminal is confirmed with your booking, so you do not accidentally travel between T1 and T2.
  3. A complimentary waiting period after landingTime is allowed for passport control and baggage reclaim; the exact waiting conditions are set out in your booking confirmation.

“Tarragona” and “Costa Daurada” are not the same destination

Many people who book a transfer to “Tarragona” are actually staying in one of the surrounding tourist resorts, and these are different journeys with different prices. Separating the city itself from its surrounding destinations makes it easier to calculate the correct route.

The city

Tarragona: Tarraco, Part Alta and the port

The UNESCO World Heritage Roman complex, including the amphitheatre, circus and city walls, together with the historic walled Part Alta, Balcó del Mediterrani and the port. This is the right destination if your hotel is in Tarragona or you are boarding a cruise.

The surrounding area

Salou, La Pineda, PortAventura and Cambrils

The Costa Daurada's main beach resorts and theme parks are outside Tarragona city, several kilometres from the historic centre. If you are staying at a hotel in Salou or travelling to PortAventura, that is your actual destination, not “Tarragona”.

If you are boarding a cruise, your boarding time matters more than your flight arrival time

Cruise port

Tarragona is a cruise port of call and homeport, with its own terminal

Tarragona has become increasingly important as a cruise port —with a growing season and a refurbished terminal—, and some cruise lines use it as a homeport for embarkation. If your cruise departs from here, the cruise line will ask you to arrive at the terminal in advance, usually 2 to 3 hours before departure. Your airport pick-up should therefore be planned around your required embarkation time, not simply your flight arrival. Tell us your ship's boarding time and we will arrange the transfer with sufficient time to spare.

Groups, cruises and luggage

For families, groups or passengers travelling with bulky cruise luggage, the vehicle may need to be upgraded; you can view the vehicle categories in the Zonetransfers fleet to make sure you have enough seats and luggage space before booking.

Getting into the city: Part Alta and the AVE station that isn't in Tarragona

Tarragona's old town, the Part Alta, has narrow streets and pedestrianised sections within the city walls, so drop-off is usually at the edge, with the final stretch covered on foot. There is also a detail that can catch out travellers arriving by train: the Camp de Tarragona high-speed railway station is not in the city, but around 13 km away in La Secuita, connected by road. Arriving by AVE does not mean you have reached Tarragona; there is still a final road journey. A door-to-door airport transfer takes you directly to your address without this extra connection.

During Santa Tecla, the city gets busy (and roads close)

From 15 to 24 September, Santa Tecla —Tarragona's Festa Major, recognised as a Festival of International Tourist Interest— fills the city with castells and correfocs. In even-numbered years such as 2026, the Concurs de Castells also takes place in October. These are particularly busy periods, with traffic restrictions in Part Alta: if you are arriving at this time, it is worth allowing extra time and agreeing the drop-off point in advance.

No car: the AP-7 is toll-free, but public transport isn't direct

By road, the main route to Tarragona, the AP-7, has been toll-free since 2021. By public transport, however, there is no convenient direct option from the airport: the Rodalies train requires a change in Barcelona, while high-speed trains stop at Camp de Tarragona, outside the city. With luggage, as a group, when you have a cruise to catch or when your destination is on the Costa Daurada, a single door-to-door journey avoids multiple changes and the final leg of the trip.

Specific questions about transfers to Tarragona

I'm boarding a cruise in Tarragona. Will I arrive in time?

It depends on your ship's departure time and your flight, which is why we work this out when you book. Cruise lines ask passengers to arrive at the terminal in advance, usually 2 to 3 hours before departure, and the journey takes around an hour. We therefore schedule your pick-up to allow enough time to reach the port's cruise terminal.

I'm booking “Tarragona” but my hotel is in Salou or at PortAventura. Is it the same?

No. Salou, La Pineda, PortAventura and Cambrils are outside Tarragona city, several kilometres from the centre, and each has its own route and price. Give us the exact town and address so we can calculate the correct fare.

Is the AVE station in Tarragona city?

No. The Camp de Tarragona high-speed railway station is around 13 km away in La Secuita, outside the city. Arriving by AVE means an additional road journey; an airport transfer takes you directly to your address in Tarragona.

Why fly into Barcelona Airport if Reus is closer?

Reus Airport (REU) is the closest airport to Tarragona, but its flight network is limited and seasonal. Depending on your departure point and travel dates, Barcelona (BCN) may be the more practical option for many travellers, followed by a road transfer to Tarragona.

Does the price to Tarragona apply to every area or to the port?

The quoted reference is for Tarragona city. The cruise port, Part Alta and accommodation on the outskirts are different drop-off points, while destinations across the Costa Daurada are further afield. It is best to provide the exact address so we can adjust the fare accordingly.
