Airport pickup at Barcelona-El Prat: what to expect

Barcelona-El Prat Airport operates through two separate terminals, T1 and T2. Your pickup arrangements therefore depend on the terminal shown on your flight details.

  1. Provide your flight number and terminal when booking Your flight information allows the driver to follow the flight status and adjust the pickup time if the aircraft arrives earlier or later than scheduled, without you having to call.
  2. Meet your driver in the arrivals area The service includes meet & greet with a welcome sign. The exact meeting point inside your terminal is confirmed with your booking, avoiding unnecessary movement between T1 and T2.
  3. Allow time for arrival formalities A courtesy waiting period is allowed after landing so you can complete passport or security formalities and collect your luggage. The specific conditions are provided in your booking confirmation.

Is driving from Barcelona to Alicante the right option?

Alicante-Elche Airport (ALC) is located only a few kilometres from Alicante, so flying can be quicker and cheaper for many travellers. A 525 km private road transfer is more relevant when the circumstances of your journey make a direct flight less convenient.

A road transfer may suit you if…

When travelling by private car makes sense

Your flight arrives in Barcelona without a convenient connection to ALC; you are travelling as a group or carrying substantial luggage; you arrive at a time when flights south are not available; you prefer not to fly; you would like to stop along the Mediterranean route, for example in Valencia or Peñíscola; or you need a door-to-door journey without changes, which can be useful for older passengers or travellers with reduced mobility.

ALC may be more suitable if…

When flying to Alicante is worth considering

If you have a direct flight to Alicante-Elche from your departure point and your priorities are travel time and cost, flying is often the more practical option. ALC is around 10 km from Alicante, making the onward journey relatively short. There is also a direct Euromed train between Barcelona and Alicante, taking around 5 hours from city centre to city centre.

For a five-hour journey, comfort and planning matter

A journey of this length requires a different approach from a short airport transfer. Breaks can be planned during the route, while the vehicle category becomes more important for a group travelling for several hours with luggage.

Choose the vehicle for the journey, not simply the passenger count

For a five-hour trip with luggage or several passengers, the additional space offered by a larger saloon or minivan can make a significant difference to the journey. The available categories can be viewed in the Zonetransfers fleet, allowing you to select according to your passengers, luggage and comfort requirements.

Going to Alicante or somewhere else on the Costa Blanca?

A booking labelled “Alicante” does not necessarily mean Alicante city. Travellers heading south may actually be staying in Benidorm, Torrevieja, Calpe, Altea, Denia or Santa Pola. These are separate destinations with their own road distances and prices. Within Alicante itself, the destination may be the city centre, Explanada, the port and cruise terminal, Postiguet or San Juan beaches, or the railway station, which is now served by high-speed trains. Providing the exact municipality or address is therefore important when calculating the journey.

Barcelona Airport to Alicante: practical questions

Would flying to Alicante-Elche Airport be quicker?

In many cases, yes. If a direct flight to ALC is available from your departure point, flying can be faster and more economical than spending around five hours on the road. A private transfer from Barcelona is particularly relevant when your flight arrives at BCN, you are travelling as a group or with substantial luggage, you prefer not to fly, you want to make a stop on the journey, or you need a door-to-door service without connections.

How long does the Barcelona–Alicante transfer take?

The road journey takes around 5 to 5 hours 30 minutes, excluding stops. On a journey of this length, a short break for food or rest at a service area can be arranged with the driver when booking.

Can I book Alicante if my accommodation is in Benidorm or Torrevieja?

These should be treated as separate destinations. Benidorm, Torrevieja, Calpe, Altea and Denia are located at different points along the Costa Blanca rather than in Alicante city itself, so the route and price can differ. Give the exact municipality and address so the correct journey can be calculated.

Does the Barcelona–Alicante route have tolls?

The main AP-7/A-7 Mediterranean corridor has been toll-free since 2020, meaning there is no significant toll across the main part of the journey. The transfer price is closed per vehicle and includes the route, with no additional charge on arrival.

Does the Alicante price apply to every destination in the province?

The reference price applies to Alicante city. A destination elsewhere on the Costa Blanca, the cruise port or an address outside the city can change both the route and the final amount. Providing the exact destination allows the price to be adjusted before booking.
