Leave Barcelona-El Prat from T1 or T2
The transfer starts at the airport before continuing across the metropolitan area towards the inland Vallès.
Travel approximately 42 km from Barcelona-El Prat to the thermal town of Caldes de Montbui. The reference driving time is around 45 minutes, although metropolitan traffic and the final address in Caldes can make the journey longer. Historic-centre access is also regulated for vehicles, so the exact destination matters. Prices start from €85.
Caldes de Montbui lies north of Mollet del Vallès, in Vallès Oriental and close to the boundary with Vallès Occidental. After crossing the Barcelona metropolitan area, the route approaches the Vallès corridor and continues towards Caldes on the C-59.
The transfer starts at the airport before continuing across the metropolitan area towards the inland Vallès.
The usual approach from Barcelona reaches the Mollet area before continuing towards Caldes along the C-59.
Once in Caldes, the route depends on whether the destination is in the historic centre, at a spa, at a private address or in an outer part of the municipality.
The municipality is also connected by the C-1415a towards Granollers, the C-1413a towards Sabadell and the C-59 towards Moià. The most suitable access can therefore change when the booked destination is outside the central area.
Barcelona-El Prat has two passenger terminals, T1 and T2. Providing your flight number helps identify the airport arrival and the terminal before the journey of approximately three quarters of an hour to Caldes de Montbui.
Certain approaches to Caldes de Montbui's historic centre are controlled by cameras. The municipal system is designed to manage traffic, protect the historic area and give priority to residents, pedestrians and authorised users.
The municipal system controls vehicle entry to several streets in the historic centre. A private transfer should not assume that every vehicle can always reach every entrance.
The municipality provides for access by residents, businesses and authorised people. If your accommodation is within the controlled area, check with the property how vehicle access should be handled.
If the booked address is inside a regulated area, the final drop-off must follow the conditions in force at the time. Authorised access may be possible in some cases; in others, a permitted nearby drop-off point may be more appropriate.
Caldes de Montbui's thermal identity is tied to a specific local resource: the Font del Lleó supplies water at around 74 °C, Roman baths remain part of the town's heritage, and thermal establishments including Termes Victòria, Broquetas and Vila de Caldes continue to operate.
In May 2026, the municipality, Grup Termes Victòria and Grup Broquetas signed a new agreement concerning the management and distribution of the municipal thermal water. The arrangement reflects the continuing role of thermal water in local activity.
Balneari Termes Victòria is located in the historic centre. Supplying the exact property address makes it easier to plan the final drop-off.
This is another historic thermal reference in the central area, close to Caldes's heritage circuit.
Giving the actual property name avoids treating every thermal establishment as though it shared the same entrance or access arrangements.
The former railway between Mollet and Caldes de Montbui closed in the 20th century. Today, interurban buses provide the main public transport connection: route e9 links Barcelona with Caldes, while other services connect the town with Sabadell, Granollers, Mollet and nearby municipalities.
| Travel factor | Private transfer | Public transport |
|---|---|---|
| Starting at the airport | Pickup at T1 or T2 | First connect with Barcelona or another interchange point |
| Train to Caldes | Not applicable | No active railway service reaches Caldes de Montbui |
| Bus | No vehicle change planned | The e9 connects Barcelona with Caldes, alongside other interurban services |
| Final destination | Booked address or agreed drop-off point | Bus station or bus stop, followed by a possible final leg |
| Luggage | Vehicle capacity is defined before travel | Passengers manage luggage during connections |
Sagalés reports that, because of works which began on 23 March 2026 and will continue until completion, route e9 is temporarily not using the bus station and instead stops at carrer Montserrat Roig. If you choose public transport, check the current arrangement before travelling.
A journey of approximately 42 km does not determine the appropriate vehicle category by itself. A couple travelling for a weekend, a family staying at a spa and a group attending an event can have different requirements even when they follow the same C-59 route.
A suitable option may be sufficient for a short trip when the number of passengers and bags fits the selected vehicle's capacity.
Several suitcases, a pushchair or children's equipment can make luggage capacity an important consideration alongside passenger numbers.
Events, meetings or groups staying at the same property may prefer a collective vehicle rather than arranging separate departures.
Escaldàrium, the Festa del Foc i de l'Aigua, takes place around Plaça de la Font del Lleó and uses several streets in the historic centre. Its event arrangements can involve temporary road closures and restrictions in an area that already has regulated vehicle access.
The municipal traffic plan included restrictions around Plaça de la Font del Lleó, carrer del Pont, carrer del Forn, carrer de Barcelona and other locations in the old town. The 2026 edition was ultimately cancelled because of the emergency caused by the Sentmenat fire, but the planned arrangements illustrate why future events should be checked before a transfer to the centre.
Each edition may use a different traffic plan. For travellers, the relevant point is that a major event around Font del Lleó can affect the final section of the journey, so the municipal information for the actual travel date should be checked.
Caldes de Montbui and Caldes de Malavella share a thermal tradition and a similar name, but they are separate destinations. Caldes de Montbui is in Vallès Oriental, around 42 km from Barcelona-El Prat and without a current railway service. Caldes de Malavella is in La Selva, approximately twice as far away, with its own railway station on the R11.
A booking that only says “Caldes” is ambiguous. Specify Caldes de Montbui or Caldes de Malavella, and add the spa, hotel or street address so that two different thermal destinations cannot be confused.
On the journey from Caldes de Montbui back to Barcelona Airport, the published 45-minute reference is only one part of the planning. The schedule also needs to account for the initial pickup from the accommodation, the C-59, metropolitan traffic and the time required inside T1 or T2 before the flight.
If the vehicle needs to enter a regulated area, the initial movement may require authorisation or a nearby meeting point. Resolve the access arrangement before the flight day rather than when the airport departure window is already running.
Caldes de Montbui sits on a specific Vallès corridor. If your actual destination is elsewhere, the route, transport connections and final approach will be different.
The other major thermal “Caldes” in this group: almost twice the distance, on the Girona corridor and with its own railway station.
For travel to the comarca's capital and a different urban and railway hub from the C-59 corridor used to reach Caldes.
An urban destination on the other side of the comarca boundary, connected with Caldes by the C-1413a but operating as a separate metropolitan destination.
Another historic town with a thermal tradition, but located on the C-17 corridor rather than at the end of the C-59.
A major Vallès city rather than a smaller thermal town at the end of the Caldes route.
A much closer connection to the Barcelona metropolitan area, particularly relevant for offices, hotels and residential addresses.
A route towards central Catalonia that leaves the Vallès corridor before reaching Caldes.
A substantially longer journey continuing along the C-16 towards the Pre-Pyrenees, with a different relationship to mountain-bound traffic.
A coastal route replacing the inland thermal setting with the Maresme corridor and a Mediterranean tourist destination.
A route in the opposite direction from El Prat, heading towards the Garraf coast and beaches rather than inland Vallès.
No. Caldes de Montbui does not currently have a railway service. The former Mollet–Caldes railway ceased operating in 1932. Today's public transport option is based mainly on interurban buses.
There is no direct airport bus equivalent to the private transfer. Services such as the e9 connect Barcelona with Caldes, so travelling from El Prat by public transport requires an initial connection with the urban or interurban network.
Not necessarily. Certain approaches to Caldes's historic centre are controlled by cameras. If the hotel or accommodation is inside the regulated area, check in advance whether vehicle access requires authorisation or whether a permitted nearby drop-off point should be used.
No. Caldes de Montbui is in Vallès Oriental, around 42 km from the airport. Caldes de Malavella is in La Selva, approximately twice as far away, on the Barcelona–Girona corridor. Use the full destination name when booking.
This area is in the historic centre, where vehicle access is regulated. Providing the exact spa or accommodation name makes it possible to determine how the drop-off should be handled on the service date.
Getting to a historic thermal town with regulated streets involves more than following the C-59 until the Caldes de Montbui sign appears. Include the exact spa, street or accommodation in your booking so that the final approach can take account of the actual access arrangements rather than leaving the driver and passenger to find an improvised drop-off around Font del Lleó.
