Leave the airport heading north-east
From El Prat, the journey crosses the metropolitan area before continuing along the coastal corridor towards the Maresme.
Blanes is around 86 km from Barcelona-El Prat Airport and marks the southern gateway to the Costa Brava. The reference driving time is about 1 h 05 min, although summer traffic along the coastal corridor and the exact drop-off point can make a difference. Your destination may be the town centre, port, s’Abanell, the hotel area or one of the many campsites along the southern coast. Prices from €109.
Blanes sits at the southern end of the Costa Brava, between the Maresme area and the La Selva comarca. From Barcelona, the journey normally follows the C-32 before connecting with the GI-600, N-II and GI-682 network as the vehicle approaches Blanes, depending on the exact access point.
From El Prat, the journey crosses the metropolitan area before continuing along the coastal corridor towards the Maresme.
The C-32 links Barcelona with the Tordera area and brings the vehicle close to the main approaches to Blanes.
The GI-600 connects Blanes with Tordera, while the GI-682 links the town with Palafolls and Malgrat de Mar and continues north towards Lloret de Mar.
A transfer ending in Blanes does not need to continue along the GI-682 towards Lloret de Mar and Tossa. That makes Blanes a destination in its own right rather than a generic stop somewhere on the southern Costa Brava.
Blanes is not a single drop-off point. The historic town centre and port are north of the long s’Abanell beach, while many campsites and holiday properties are concentrated further south around Avinguda Vila de Madrid and nearby streets.
Hotels, apartments and properties in the centre require the vehicle to continue into the urban area around the promenade and port.
S’Abanell beach stretches south of the centre and is home to apartments, hotels and a significant part of Blanes’ tourist accommodation.
Blanes has numerous campsites in this area. Giving the exact property avoids reaching the centre first and then needing another local journey.
Blanes tourism information places numerous campsites and accommodation options along Avinguda Vila de Madrid and Carrer Colom, while other properties are in the centre or beside the port. “Blanes” is therefore a municipality, not a single arrival point.
Barcelona-El Prat has two separate passenger terminals. Providing your flight details helps organise the pickup at T1 or T2 before starting the 80+ km journey towards the Costa Brava.
Aena operates a free shuttle between T1 and T2 around the clock. If several passengers are travelling together to Blanes, provide all relevant flight details so the meeting can be organised before the road journey begins.
Blanes has an option that is relatively unusual for a coastal destination at this distance: an intercity bus runs directly from Barcelona-El Prat T1. Public transport is therefore a genuine alternative and is worth considering alongside a private transfer.
| Aspect | Private transfer | Direct 603 bus |
|---|---|---|
| Departure | Co-ordinated with your booking and terminal | According to the published timetable from T1 |
| Estimated duration | ≈ 1 h 05–1 h 20 | Around 1 h 50 min on certain services |
| Connections | No vehicle change required | Can operate directly to Blanes |
| Final destination | Hotel, apartment or booked address | Relevant bus stop on the route |
| Luggage and group size | Vehicle category selected according to the booking | Subject to seats, timetable and operator conditions |
Sagalés operates route 603 between El Prat Airport, Barcelona and Blanes, with departures from the T1 platforms and arrival in Blanes. For one or two travellers whose flight fits the available service, it can be a practical option.
Blanes is served by the R1 Rodalies line, which runs along the Maresme coast and connects the town with Barcelona. From Barcelona-El Prat, however, the railway journey requires a connection with the wider Rodalies network; there is no single direct airport-to-Blanes train.
The R1 connects Blanes with Barcelona, Badalona, Mataró, Arenys de Mar, Calella and other coastal towns.
The airport is served by the R2 Nord; reaching Blanes by rail therefore requires a connection with the R1 within the metropolitan railway network.
The railway station is not automatically the same as your hotel, apartment or campsite. If your accommodation is in s’Abanell or the southern tourist area, another local journey is still required.
There is no general reason to choose a larger vehicle for every Blanes transfer. The difference becomes relevant when a family or group is travelling with several suitcases, a pushchair, children’s luggage or the equipment associated with a longer stay in an apartment or campsite.
A car may be sufficient when the passengers and luggage fit within the capacity of the selected category.
A pushchair, several suitcases and beach luggage can make boot space just as important as the number of seats.
School, sports and holiday groups can co-ordinate one vehicle when everyone is travelling to the same hotel or property.
Blanes hosts one of its largest annual events during the International Fireworks Competition. In 2026, between 23 and 27 July, the town council applied traffic restrictions particularly around the centre, port and seafront from approximately 19:00 until midnight.
The 2026 restrictions affected, among other areas, Plaça Catalunya, Passeig s’Abanell, Passeig de Mar, Carrer Ample and access towards the port. If a future booking coincides with the fireworks or Festa Major, the restrictions in force for that year should be checked before confirming the final drop-off point.
For a passenger staying in central Blanes, knowing about possible access restrictions during a major event can determine where the vehicle can actually finish the journey. That is specific information that can affect a Blanes transfer.
Both towns are part of the southern Costa Brava, but they are not interchangeable. A transfer to Blanes finishes first; reaching Lloret requires continuing north along the GI-682. Booking Blanes when the accommodation is actually in Lloret changes the distance, journey time and final road section.
The hotel, campsite, apartment or street name makes it possible to establish whether the booking should really finish in Blanes or continue towards another Costa Brava destination.
On arrival, traffic delays can affect the start of a holiday. On the return journey, they can affect your flight. Pickup time should take account of the GI-600/C-32 journey, expected traffic along the coastal corridor and the time required at T1 or T2 before departure.
Blanes is a seasonal tourist destination with significant variations in traffic. At weekends, during changeover periods or around major events, traffic to and from the coast may justify a larger margin than during quieter periods.
Blanes marks the southern gateway to the Costa Brava, but moving only a few kilometres can change the road corridor, urban access and type of accommodation. These routes cover different destinations rather than treating the whole coastline as one journey.
For continuing north from Blanes along the GI-682 to one of the main hotel centres of the southern Costa Brava.
A coastal destination before Blanes, useful when the accommodation is still within Barcelona province.
A route that continues beyond Lloret and adds a different final coastal section to the direct approach to Blanes.
For travelling directly to a Maresme hotel area without covering the final kilometres towards Blanes.
A destination midway along the coastal corridor, before reaching Santa Susanna, Malgrat de Mar and Blanes.
For leaving the coastal corridor and finishing in an inland spa town within La Selva.
A considerably more northerly destination requiring the journey to continue beyond Blanes and Lloret towards the Baix Empordà.
For replacing the coastal route with a direct connection to the provincial capital and its urban centre.
A coastal route in the opposite direction from El Prat: south-west and considerably closer to the airport.
For leaving the coast behind completely and travelling inland towards Osona and central Catalonia.
Yes. Sagalés route 603 connects Barcelona Airport T1 with Blanes. Check the timetable for your travel date, as its frequency is considerably lower than that of an urban service.
No. Blanes is served by the R1, while the airport is connected to the railway network through the R2 Nord. Travelling entirely by train therefore requires a connection within the Rodalies network.
No. S’Abanell extends south of the central area and contains numerous hotels, apartments and campsites. Providing the exact address helps determine the appropriate access route and final drop-off point.
Temporary traffic restrictions may be introduced around the town centre, seafront, s’Abanell and port area during the event. The restrictions applying to each edition should be checked to determine the appropriate drop-off point.
No. Lloret de Mar is a separate destination and requires the road journey to continue beyond Blanes. Providing the actual accommodation address allows the distance, journey time and price to be calculated correctly.
Blanes changes considerably between the port, town centre, s’Abanell and the campsite area. Enter your flight details and the address where you will actually leave your luggage so that the final kilometres from the C-32 finish where your holiday begins, without adding local buses, long walks or a second transfer.
