Minibus ready in Sofia for a day trip to Rila Monastery.
One vehicle for the whole party, with a driver, leaving from your hotel in Sofia, and a fixed amount you know before saying yes. Rila Monastery is 118 km (73 miles) away; Borovets, 69 km; Thessaloniki, across the Greek border, 293 km.
To price a minibus or coach with a driver in Sofia we need to know how many of you are travelling, the route, how long the driver should wait for you, the dates and whether the trip leaves Bulgaria or runs over several days. With that we prepare a fixed amount per vehicle, in euros, which does not move afterwards.
| Detail | Why it matters | How to save |
|---|---|---|
| Seats | More seats, higher price: a large coach does not cost what a minibus does | Book the vehicle that fits your group and keep a couple of seats for bags |
| Route | Counted from when the vehicle leaves until it is back in Sofia | Gather everyone at a single hotel or meeting point |
| Waiting time | A day trip with long visits adds hours | Set the length of each stop |
| Season | Skiing, Black Sea summers and big congresses fill the diary | Book weeks ahead |
| Border or several days | Checks, accommodation and driver rest must be planned | Ask for the whole tour in a single quote |
If there are 8 of you or fewer, a people carrier usually works out better: see our private transfers from Sofia to each destination.
| Group | Vehicle | Hold | Typical use |
|---|---|---|---|
| 9 – 19 | Minibus | A medium suitcase and a hand bag each | Company teams, large families, stag and hen parties |
| 20 – 35 | Midi coach | Hold for suitcases and equipment | Cultural outings, clubs, mid-size weddings |
| 36 – 54 | Coach | Large hold for skis and luggage | Congresses, study trips, multi-day tours |
| Over 54 | Several coordinated vehicles | Depending on the group | Events with departures from several hotels |
Photos, seats and boot space for every model in our fleet. Is anyone travelling in a wheelchair? Tell us from the start and we will find an accessible vehicle.
These are the outings most requested by groups staying in Sofia. The vehicle waits at each visit and brings you back to your hotel in the evening.
| Destination | Distance | Time by car | Usual combination |
|---|---|---|---|
| Rila Monastery | 118 km · 73 mi | 1 h 50 min | Boyana Church on the way out |
| Plovdiv | 145 km · 90 mi | 1 h 45 min | Bachkovo Monastery, 30 km south |
| Borovets | 69 km · 43 mi | 1 h 23 min | Samokov and the Iskar reservoir |
| Veliko Tarnovo | 218 km · 135 mi | 2 h 49 min | Arbanasi, four kilometres away |
Boyana Church only lets small groups inside, in turns, so arrive early and go in batches while the rest wait in the garden.
At Rila the coach parks next to the monastery entrance. Remind the group that shoulders and knees must be covered inside the church.
Minibus ready in Sofia for a day trip to Rila Monastery.
Clubs, schools and groups of friends leave Sofia on season Saturdays. Skis, boards and boots travel in the hold, and from December to March the vehicle is equipped for mountain roads.
The closest snow to Sofia, at the foot of Musala.
Gondola from the town and Pirin slopes.
The same service collects you on your return day.
Times by car from central Sofia. A coach is a little slower on mountain stretches, so allow some margin.
From Sofia, three major Balkan cities are less than five hours away. The same vehicle and driver cross the border with the group.
| Destination | Distance and time | Border |
|---|---|---|
| Thessaloniki (Greece) | 293 km · 3 h 39 min | No fixed checks, inside Schengen |
| Skopje (North Macedonia) | 244 km · 3 h 41 min | Document check at Gyueshevo |
| Belgrade (Serbia) | 401 km · 4 h 15 min | Document check at Kalotina |
Coach ready in Sofia for a Balkan tour.
There are no fixed checks into Greece, because Bulgaria and Greece are in the Schengen area, although every traveller must carry a valid ID card or passport. In North Macedonia and Serbia, outside the European Union, the documents of the whole group are checked, and with a full coach the check can take longer.
It helps to prepare a passenger list with names and document numbers, and children travelling without their parents should carry a signed consent letter. Anyone with a non-EU passport should check beforehand whether they need a visa. Waiting at the border does not change the fixed price.
During major congresses we run shuttles between city-centre hotels and the venues, speaker transfers and group dinner runs.
| Need | How we organise it |
|---|---|
| Hotel – Inter Expo Center shuttle | Several departures each morning and a return when the venue closes |
| Events at the National Palace of Culture (NDK) | Hotel pick-ups and waiting during the event |
| Company dinner or activity | Pick-up and return with an open return time |
| Invoicing | A single invoice for the company, in euros |
For weddings, the minibus collects guests at the hotel, takes them to the church or registry office and then to the restaurant, with the return in one or two runs. Sports teams and fans book coaches for matches and for concerts at Arena Sofia or the Vasil Levski National Stadium.
When the event ends, the area around the venue jams. We agree a meeting point a little away from the main exit so the group can board straight away.
In summer, groups of friends and families travel to the coast together with all their luggage in the hold.
Passenger insurance and a clean vehicle, ready at the agreed time.
During visits the driver waits with the vehicle.
A 45-minute break after each four and a half hours at the wheel, recorded by tachograph.
Bulgaria follows the European driving-time rules: as a rule, nine hours a day at the wheel, which can be ten on two days a week. When the itinerary needs more, the quote adds a second driver; on multi-day trips, it also covers where the driver sleeps.
Passengers must wear seat belts in vehicles fitted with them. Throughout the trip, the group has 24-hour personal assistance on our emergency phone line.
We collect from any hotel or address in Sofia. In the historic centre many streets are narrow or pedestrian, so we suggest a nearby point where the vehicle can stop and load luggage calmly.
| Area | Landmark | Why it works |
|---|---|---|
| Centre | National Palace of Culture (NDK) | Wide open space that is easy to find |
| Historic centre | Around Alexander Nevsky Cathedral | Common on guided tours |
| Business district | Business Park Sofia, in Mladost | Early company departures |
| University | Studentski Grad | Student trips and residences |
| East of the city | Inter Expo Center and Tsarigradsko Boulevard | Direct access to the A1 |
Sofia airport is 9 km from the centre, around 14 minutes away. If the group lands on the same flight, the driver checks the actual landing time and waits with the vehicle in arrivals. Ski groups often head straight from there to Bansko or Borovets.
Applies to minibuses and coaches.
Better value: hourly car service in Sofia.
They have their own access in the B2B area.
Payment and change rules are in our terms of sale. Zonetransfers customers rate us 4.9 on average in their reviews. Organising a group in Spain too? See our minibus hire in Zaragoza and minibus hire in Valencia, and every city on private transfers.
There is no single price: it depends on the number of seats, the kilometres, the waiting time, the date and whether the trip crosses a border or lasts more than a day. With that information we prepare a fixed amount per vehicle, in euros, which holds even with traffic or agreed waiting. A Rila trip with waiting does not cost the same as a short run across Sofia.
Minibuses have 9 to 19 seats, midi coaches 20 to 35 and coaches 36 to 54. If there are more of you, we send two or more vehicles leaving at the same time. The most effective way to adjust your quote is to choose the size that matches your group, leaving a couple of seats free for bags and coats.
Yes, it is the most requested outing. Rila Monastery is 118 km from Sofia, an hour and 50 minutes, and Boyana Church is on the way, on the edge of the city. Boyana admits small groups in turns, so arrive early. The vehicle waits at each visit and brings you back to your hotel.
Yes. Borovets is 69 km from Sofia and Bansko 155 km, about two hours on the Struma motorway. Skis, boards and boots go in the hold and, in winter, the vehicle leaves equipped for snow. Many groups book the outward trip on a Saturday and the return the following Saturday with the same service.
North Macedonia and Serbia are not in the European Union, so the documents of every traveller are checked at the border. Each person should carry a valid ID card or passport and, if they hold another nationality, check whether they need a visa. A list with names and document numbers speeds up the coach check.
Under the European rules applied in Bulgaria, nine hours a day as a general rule, which can rise to ten on two days a week, with a 45-minute break after each four and a half hours at the wheel. When the itinerary is longer, we add a second driver to the quote so the group does not have to stop for hours.
In euros, by card when you confirm the booking and on a secure payment page, so there is no need for cash for the driver. Bulgaria has adopted the euro as its official currency. For companies and agencies we issue a single invoice in their name, and the price stays the same even if the trip crosses into Greece, Serbia or North Macedonia.
At your hotel if the street allows a large vehicle to stop. In the historic centre, with many narrow or pedestrian streets, we suggest a nearby point with space, such as the open area in front of the National Palace of Culture. For groups staying in several hotels, we set a pick-up route with a time for each one.
For the ski season, Black Sea summers and major congresses, several weeks ahead, since every group looks for a vehicle on the same days. For a weekday trip outside the season a few days is usually enough. If the group is crossing a border, the sooner we have the passenger list, the better.
Yes. Cancelling a minibus or coach is free up to 96 hours before. If the time, route or number of people changes, message us on WhatsApp: when the change needs another vehicle or more hours, we send you the new amount to approve. Payment is made by card at the time of booking.
Tell us the date, how many you are, which hotel we collect you from and where you want to go: at Zonetransfers we reply with a fixed amount per vehicle, in euros. For Balkan tours or ski weeks, message us on WhatsApp and we will plan it with you.
