Gostivar lies by the source of the Vardar, which rises at Vrutok a few kilometres away, and is the last town in the Polog valley before the climb to Mavrovo and Lake Ohrid. From Skopje Airport it is about 70 km and 55 minutes, almost all motorway, from €69 per vehicle.
