The Fiumelatte flows into the lake at Varenna: a stream of about 250 m that only runs from March to October, described by Leonardo da Vinci in the Codex Atlanticus. A Zonetransfers chauffeur is posted at the Malpensa exit from customs and drives you to Varenna from €229 per vehicle.
Varenna is on the eastern shore of Lake Como: after crossing Lecco on the SS36, the car drops to the lake road into the village, whose pier has ferries to Bellagio and Menaggio.

The car ferry from Varenna goes to Bellagio, Menaggio and Cadenabbia. If you plan to visit the western shore later, it saves the long drive around the lake; Navigazione Laghi runs different weekday and holiday timetables.

Varenna is one of the most photographed villages on Lake Como, and many travellers make it their base for ferry trips. A direct car from Malpensa ends at your hotel or the nearest point in the car-light village centre.
