The village meeting point, ringed by the coloured houses that define Portofino.
15th-century fortress with hanging gardens and bay views; in winter often open at weekends only.
12th-century church holding relics brought back from the Crusades, rebuilt after wartime bombing.
Medieval abbey run by the FAI, reached only on foot or by boat; the Christ of the Abyss lies underwater in the cove.
We drive to any address in Portofino. Four hotels worth knowing:
A former Benedictine monastery turned villa by Baron Baratta, a hotel since 1902.
The Splendido's annex on the Piazzetta, with 16 rooms and suites.
18 rooms a few hundred metres from the Piazzetta, breakfast in an inner garden and paid access to the group's beach club in Paraggi.
Restored Ligurian villa with 22 rooms and a private beach, a few minutes' walk from the harbour.
Portofino guests often arrive at Malpensa from long-haul flights to join a yacht or a villa on the promontory. We drive straight to the hotel, the village entrance or Santa Margherita's harbour if your boat collects you there.

Vehicles stop at the municipal car park under the town hall at the entrance to the village; the Piazzetta and harbour are pedestrian. We drop you there, or at hotels with their own access such as the Splendido.
Reserve early if you travel on these dates.
To the entrance of the village, at the municipal car park on the SP227; the centre is on foot. Hotels like the Splendido have their own road access, and we drive to the door.
