Leaving BIO, the route takes advantage of the airport's proximity to the Mungia corridor. From there, the BI-631 continues towards Bermeo through the Sollube area before descending into the municipality.
Bermeo is approached differently from Gernika
Bermeo is also connected with Gernika-Lumo by the BI-2235, but for journeys from Bilbao Airport, the Town Council recommends the BI-631. The coastal destination and the approach from the airport are different.

San Juan de Gaztelugatxe is in the Bermeo area, but it is not a drop-off in central Bermeo
San Juan de Gaztelugatxe lies on the road between Bermeo and Bakio. From Bermeo, the journey continues along the BI-3101 to the relevant access point, followed by the permitted section on foot. A BIO → Bermeo transfer should therefore not automatically be used when Gaztelugatxe is the actual destination.

The access point is on the Bermeo–Bakio road and requires a different destination from the urban centre.
The final approach to the islet is on foot
The vehicle can only reach the authorised access area; the hermitage is reached afterwards on foot.

Several coastal towns around BIO can look close on a map, but they use different corridors and have different final approaches. Bermeo is reached from Mungia via the BI-631; Gernika follows another route, while Lekeitio continues considerably further east along the Bizkaia coast.
