Drop-off at Piazzale Roma
Right by the vaporetto and water-taxi stops, with porters available for heavy luggage.
Venice is the one city in Europe where no car reaches the historic centre. Your Zonetransfers driver meets you in arrivals and takes you to Piazzale Roma, the last point on the road, to your hotel door in Mestre or to your cruise berth, from €54 per vehicle for up to four passengers.
Marco Polo Airport is on the mainland, about 13 km from Piazzale Roma, the bus and car terminal at the start of the Grand Canal and the furthest point any vehicle can reach in Venice. A private transfer takes you there in 20–25 minutes across the Ponte della Libertà, from €54 per vehicle with luggage and waiting time included. From Piazzale Roma you continue to your hotel on foot, by vaporetto or by water taxi.
Right by the vaporetto and water-taxi stops, with porters available for heavy luggage.
On the mainland the car stops at your hotel entrance, 15–20 minutes from the airport.
Marittima, Porto Marghera, Fusina, Chioggia, Trieste or Ravenna, depending on your ship.
Your driver stops at Piazzale Roma next to the vaporetto and water-taxi stops. From there, the last stretch depends on where your hotel is:

Most Venice hotels send directions from Piazzale Roma or the nearest vaporetto stop. Hotels in Santa Croce near the Papadopoli gardens are a few minutes' walk, so you can avoid the boat altogether.
On certain days in spring and early summer, day visitors entering Venice's historic centre between 8:30 and 16:00 pay an access fee: €5 if paid in advance and €10 in the last four days before the visit. There are exemptions, including Veneto residents, and visitors staying overnight in Venice follow a separate registration. Check the official calendar and your situation on cda.ve.it before travelling.
If you sleep on the mainland and visit the island on a fee day, you are treated as a day visitor. Hotels in Mestre and Marghera are not affected.
Staying on the mainland means a car to your door and lower hotel prices, with the island a short train or tram ride away. Prices from, per vehicle for up to four passengers:
Hotels near Piazzale Roma and the Papadopoli gardens, reachable on foot.
Station-area hotels with car access to the door and trains to the island in 10 minutes.
Business hotels and Porto Marghera cruise berths.
Cruise and ferry terminal with boats to the Zattere.
Since August 2021, ships over 25,000 tonnes cannot sail through the Giudecca Canal, so many cruises no longer leave from the historic terminal. Check the exact terminal in your boarding documents before booking:
| Terminal | Which ships | Private transfer from |
|---|---|---|
| Marittima (Santa Marta) | Ships up to 25,000 tonnes: luxury and expedition cruises | €54 |
| Porto Marghera | Mid-size ships; cruise lines often shuttle passengers | €54 |
| Fusina | Mainland terminal with boats to the Zattere | €79 |
| Chioggia | Some lines board at the southern end of the lagoon | €179 |
| Trieste | Embarkation port for several Adriatic cruises | €323 |
| Ravenna (Porto Corsini) | Another Adriatic option used by cruise lines | €363 |
Embarking on the day you land? Leave plenty of margin: your cruise line sets the cut-off time. On disembarkation day, give us your ship and expected time off and we collect you at the terminal.
Marco Polo has a single passenger terminal. Your driver waits at the exit from baggage reclaim with your name on a sign.
Expect passport checks and, on a first visit, EU Entry/Exit System registration. Your 60 minutes of free waiting count from landing.
The service runs 24/7 with no night supplement, even after the last public connections have stopped.
Door-to-door prices from, per vehicle for up to four passengers, with tolls, fuel and VAT included. Minivans are available for five to eight people.
