How to get from Prague Airport to the city centre

Václav Havel Airport is around 18 km north-west of Prague city centre, with a journey time of approximately 25 to 40 minutes by car depending on traffic. There is no metro station at the airport, so public transport requires a bus connection to the Metro Line A at Nádraží Veleslavín. A private airport transfer, however, takes you directly from the terminal to your accommodation.

The Czech koruna (CZK) is the country's official currency, as the Czech Republic is not part of the eurozone. This can be useful when calculating tolls or local expenses, although with a fixed-price airport transfer the fare is agreed in advance.

The Old Town and where vehicles can stop

Prague's historic centre includes extensive pedestrianised areas around the Old Town Square and Charles Bridge, where vehicles are not permitted. If your accommodation is located within these streets, drop-off is arranged at the nearest accessible point, with the final section completed on foot.

Night-time restrictions in the Old Town

Since 2024, Prague 1 has restricted vehicle access to parts of the Old Town between 22:00 and 06:00. For late-night arrivals in this area, it is advisable to agree a suitable drop-off point outside the restricted zone in advance, as this depends on the exact location of your accommodation.

Short and long-distance transfers are planned differently

A 30-minute transfer into Prague city centre is organised very differently from a journey of several hours to Vienna or Český Krumlov. Luggage requirements, vehicle selection and journey planning all depend on the distance, so it is worth considering these details when booking.

Prague city centre

For shorter journeys, the key details are the correct arrival terminal and the nearest accessible drop-off point within the pedestrianised Old Town. The vehicle is selected according to the number of passengers and luggage.

Bohemia or international destinations

For longer journeys, luggage capacity and comfort become more important. On routes such as Dresden or Vienna, where another country is crossed, it is advisable to specify any planned stops and your exact destination.

How long does it take from Prague Airport to the city centre?
