Without going through the Walls
A hospital transfer goes directly to the healthcare complex and does not need to enter the centre of Ávila.
Your driver meets you at Terminal T1, T2, T3 or T4 at Madrid-Barajas and takes you straight to your hotel in Ávila, the city walls, the old town, the railway station, Hospital Nuestra Señora de Sonsoles or a private address. It is a door-to-door journey with no changes in Madrid, which suits travellers with luggage, families and anyone who wants to arrive directly at their final address.
Private transfers from Madrid Airport to Ávila start from €187 per vehicle. The service includes pickup at the terminal and a direct journey to your accommodation, home or other destination in Ávila.

To confirm your price quickly, have these details ready:
The Walls of Ávila (Muralla de Ávila) physically organise the historic centre, so a hotel inside the walls, the Parador, the railway station and Hospital de Sonsoles each need a different approach. The Old Town of Ávila and its churches outside the walls form part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
| Destination | Location | What to know |
|---|---|---|
| Cathedral and old town | Inside or beside the walled enclosure | Accommodation, palaces, restaurants and monuments |
| Puerta del Alcázar | Eastern sector of the Walls, near Plaza de Santa Teresa | One of the main reference points for access |
| Parador de Ávila | Marqués de Canales y Chozas 2, next to the Walls | Accessed through Puerta del Carmen |
| Ávila railway station | Paseo de la Estación | A separate destination from the walled enclosure |
| Hospital Nuestra Señora de Sonsoles | Avenida Juan Carlos I | Can be a direct destination without entering the historic centre |
| Los Cuatro Postes | West of the Walls | A different reference point from arriving inside the walls |
The Walls have several gates and sectors. Useful access references include Puerta del Alcázar, Arco del Carmen, Puerta del Puente and the area around the Casa de las Carnicerías. We do not default to one of them: we choose the access that suits your final address.
After a flight and more than 100 km on the road, you should not find that you still have to haul several suitcases over cobbled streets. That is why we ask for the exact name of your accommodation.
The Parador stands at Marqués de Canales y Chozas 2, inside the historic centre and beside the Walls, and its entrance is reached through Puerta del Carmen. Simply entering “Ávila centre” does not give the practical detail that matters, so if this is your hotel we route the journey straight to the correct access. The Parador itself notes some difficulties with pedestrian access because of the building’s historic character. If you have reduced mobility, please tell us your needs before the service.
The Cathedral, Puerta del Carmen, Santa Teresa and Puerta del Alcázar are all within a compact area on foot, but vehicle access is not necessarily the same for every hotel.
The station is on Paseo de la Estación, close to the urban centre. It makes sense as a final stop if you are continuing by train, collecting other passengers or staying in that part of town. If you are heading straight to the Walls, there is no need to stop at the station on the way.
The hospital is on Avenida Juan Carlos I, outside the historic enclosure. Patients, companions, healthcare professionals and suppliers can all use it as a direct destination from the airport.
A hospital transfer goes directly to the healthcare complex and does not need to enter the centre of Ávila.
If you are travelling with several suitcases, a folding chair or other bulky items, tell us so we can choose a vehicle with enough boot space.
The road distance from Madrid-Barajas to Ávila is currently around 120 km. With favourable traffic, driving time is about an hour and twenty minutes, but we recommend allowing more margin for traffic on the A-6 corridor and for access conditions in the city.
This is not a metropolitan route. After leaving Madrid, the road runs along the north-west corridor and through the Sierra de Guadarrama area before continuing to Ávila. In winter, wind, ice, fog or snow can make a minimum navigation time an unreliable guide.
The terminal and metropolitan traffic shape the first part of the journey, until the car joins the north-west axis out of Madrid.
The route gradually leaves the metropolitan area and crosses the Sierra de Guadarrama corridor.
The final approach is adapted to your hotel, station, hospital, area of the Walls or residential address.
Ávila sits at high altitude and the journey crosses an area where weather can have more impact than on transfers within the Madrid metropolitan area. If you need to arrive for a wedding, meeting or appointment at a fixed time, let us know when you book.

Ávila has public transport options from Madrid, and certain direct bus services run from the airport area itself. The best choice depends on your timetable, number of passengers, luggage and final address.
| Option | Main advantage | Points to consider |
|---|---|---|
| Private transfer | Terminal → hotel, hospital or home | Gains most value with families, groups, plenty of luggage, awkward timetables or destinations other than the bus station |
| Direct bus | May avoid passing through central Madrid | Limited timetable and frequency |
| Train | Rail alternative to Ávila | From Barajas it requires earlier connections in Madrid |
| Taxi | Immediate departure from the terminal | Intercity journey of more than 100 km |
For someone with little luggage and accommodation that is easy to reach, there is no reason to hide that option. A train can also be competitive for travellers with light luggage and a convenient rail timetable. A private transfer removes the earlier connections from Barajas and the onward journey from the station to your final address.
Ávila receives cultural groups, schools, associations, pilgrims, events and organised trips. For group services we need the number of passengers, luggage, hotel and planned programme before assigning a vehicle size.
Suited to solo travellers, couples, business trips and standard luggage.
A better fit for several suitcases, prams, small groups or passengers who want more space.
For visits and events you can book minibus and coach hire with driver in Madrid .
If the coach needs to stay available during a visit to the Walls, a meal, an event or a later return to Madrid, the service is arranged as vehicle availability and not only as a one-way transfer.

Ávila has accommodation both inside the Walls and in areas outside them. Knowing your hotel’s name tells us the right access and avoids using a generic central point.
A historic palace on Marqués de Canales y Chozas, reached through Puerta del Carmen.
A reference hotel within the monumental area, close to the Cathedral.
Another accommodation listed by Ávila Tourism among the destination’s hotel references.
A hotel next to the Cathedral and another in a modern area outside the walls can share a postcode and still need different approaches from the road.
These landmarks are practical reference points for deciding which part of the city your vehicle should stop in:
They define the historic centre physically and shape many of its access points.
A very useful reference for hotels inside the monumental enclosure.
Outside the walls, beside one of the most recognisable sectors of the Walls.
An outside area near Puerta del Alcázar, relevant to many hotels and restaurants.
A viewpoint to the west, separate from arriving inside the walled enclosure.
A heritage site outside the walls, with different access from the Cathedral-Walls axis.
For meetings, hotel pickups, several passengers or a vehicle on standby before the journey to Castile and León begins, see:
Many routes west and north-west share the first part of the exit from Madrid but finish in very different cities. If your trip does not end in Ávila, there is no need to use it as an artificial stop.
A route along the Guadarrama corridor to the Aqueduct, Segovia-Guiomar station and the historic centre.
If you are going to the Monastery, a hotel or Cuelgamuros, there is no need to continue to Ávila.
Travel straight on to Salamanca without making Ávila an unnecessary intermediate stop.
A direct transfer to Valladolid for hotels, the station, companies or private addresses.
A long-distance route to the north of Castile and León.
A direct journey from Barajas for groups, families and long-distance intercity travel.
If you are heading for Extremadura, book the whole journey from the terminal.
If you finish before the Sierra, at Las Rozas Village, Las Matas or a business area.
For Hospital Puerta de Hierro, hotels, offices or homes in north-west Madrid.
If you would rather continue by train from Madrid, book the airport transfer to the station first.

Ávila is at high altitude and the route crosses an area where weather can affect journey times. If you have a wedding, meeting or visit at a fixed time, tell us when you book.
Give us your flight details and the exact name of your hotel or destination. Arriving at the Parador through Puerta del Carmen, at the station, at Hospital de Sonsoles, at a hotel next to the Cathedral or at a home outside the walls each calls for a different approach, so we plan the route from Barajas with that final stretch in mind.
