Bilbao Airport
The journey begins directly at BIO. A private transfer does not require an initial trip to Bilbao Intermodal.
Castro Urdiales lies west of the Bilbao metropolitan area and is reached along the A-8 coastal corridor. Your final address matters: the harbour and old town, Brazomar, a beachfront hotel and a residential area may all require different final approaches.
A private transfer from Bilbao Airport to Castro Urdiales starts at €75 per vehicle. The road journey is approximately 39–45 km and takes around 35–40 minutes. Pickup is arranged at BIO and the journey continues directly to Castro Urdiales town centre, the harbour, Brazomar, a hotel, apartment or the booked address, with the price confirmed before the journey.
There is currently no direct bus from Bilbao Airport to Castro Urdiales. The usual public-transport option requires travelling first to Bilbao Intermodal and then changing to a bus for Castro Urdiales.
After leaving the airport area, the route joins the metropolitan road network before continuing towards Cantabria on the A-8. Castro Urdiales is reached before Laredo and Santander, making it a distinct destination rather than simply an extension of those longer journeys.

The A-8 is the principal road corridor linking the Bilbao area with Castro Urdiales and the eastern Cantabrian coast.
The approach to the old town, Brazomar and other parts of the municipality varies once Castro Urdiales is reached.
The historic area is centred around the harbour, La Plazuela, the monumental complex and the former fishing quarter. It is a compact area with a strong pedestrian character and regulated urban parking.
Castro Urdiales operates an OCA regulated parking system in different areas of the town. For a private transfer, the practical point is not to find a parking space but to identify the correct arrival point for the accommodation or booked address.
Castro Urdiales covers several distinct urban areas, so the final location affects the last part of the journey. Specifying the area helps avoid using the town centre as a reference when the accommodation is actually near the beach or elsewhere in the municipality.
This is the area around the monumental complex, former fishing quarter and harbour frontage. Accommodation such as Pensión La Sota and La Marina is located in the centre.
Brazomar lies east of the town centre and is a useful separate reference for apartments and accommodation close to the beach.
The municipality also includes residential areas and local districts outside the centre. When this is the destination, providing the full address is particularly important.
Real accommodation examples illustrate how different parts of Castro Urdiales are distributed. A hotel near Brazomar does not have the same final approach as a guesthouse in the historic centre.
This four-star hotel is located beside the beach. It has a garage and meeting spaces, making it a destination for both leisure and professional stays.
Located at La Correría 1, it is identified by the municipal tourism information as being in the town centre.
Located at La Plazuela 16, it is also in the centre. Its final approach is therefore different from accommodation in Brazomar.
The protected historic complex contains some of Castro Urdiales' most recognisable landmarks and is concentrated around the end of the harbour. For travellers, these landmarks can help establish whether accommodation is genuinely within the historic core or in another part of the town.
Official routes through the municipality include La Atalaya, Calle San Juan and the cobbled streets around Santa María. If your accommodation is in this area, giving the exact address is more useful than using the harbour as an approximate destination.
The current public-transport combination from Bilbao Airport first goes to Bilbao Intermodal, where passengers connect with a bus towards Castro Urdiales. The journey is currently around 1 hour 30 minutes, compared with approximately 36 minutes by direct road travel in favourable conditions.
Bilbao Airport is north of Bilbao, while Castro Urdiales lies to the west along the route towards Cantabria. Travelling into Bilbao first adds a section that a direct private vehicle does not need in order to start the journey to Castro Urdiales.
BIO to Castro Urdiales is a straightforward point-to-point journey. If several people need collecting, waiting time is required, or the itinerary continues to other destinations in Cantabria or Bizkaia, the service may need to be organised as a vehicle at disposal.
The Town Hall identifies bus parking areas beside Plaza de Toros and the Pachi Torre sports centre. This is particularly relevant when transport is being arranged for larger groups.
From BIO, Castro Urdiales shares part of the western approach with other Cantabrian destinations, but it is reached considerably earlier. Laredo and Santander therefore involve different distances, road sections and final approaches.
The journey continues west along the A-8 after leaving Castro Urdiales.
The route continues for roughly another hour beyond the Bilbao metropolitan area to reach the Cantabrian capital.
Still within Bizkaia, Santurtzi is reached before the route crosses towards Cantabria.
The route from BIO heads towards the right bank of the estuary rather than following the A-8 corridor towards Cantabria.
Portugalete is a metropolitan destination reached before the A-8 section that continues towards Castro Urdiales.
