Ayamonte is the first Spanish town across the Guadiana from Portugal: it faces Vila Real de Santo António from the opposite bank and keeps an old town of whitewashed squares and tiles. For the Spanish side of the Guadiana, Faro is the nearest international airport. The transfer crosses the border on the motorway with no fixed checks.
Your driver stands where you come out of baggage reclaim, holding a sign with your name. Then it is straight on to Ayamonte.

Spain is one hour ahead of Portugal. Use Spanish time for your hotel's reception hours; for the return, plan the pick-up using the Portuguese time of your flight.

You never deal with the electronic tolls; they are in the fare. Summer Saturday traffic can add a few minutes.
Your return car from Ayamonte should come 2 h 45 min before a Schengen departure and 3 h 15 min before flights to Britain, Ireland or North America, where exit border control applies. These times are in Portuguese time: in Spain it is one hour later on the clock.

It is covered: the driver times the pick-up to when you actually land, and 60 minutes of waiting are free from landing. Delays of more than 1.5 hours depend on availability.
Start with Plaza de la Laguna and Church of Las Angustias; Guadiana International Bridge is a good third stop.
