From the terminal to your actual destination
The transfer is arranged around the final address rather than simply the municipality of Elorrio. This is particularly relevant for destinations outside the historic centre.
The journey from Bilbao Airport follows the AP-8 before continuing through the Gerediaga–Elorrio corridor. Your final destination matters too: Elorrio old town, San Agustín, a hotel, a company or another specific address can each require a different final approach.
A private transfer from Bilbao Airport to Elorrio starts at €79 per vehicle. The route is approximately 44 km and normally takes around 30–40 minutes, depending on traffic and the final destination. Pickup takes place at the BIO terminal and the vehicle continues directly to Elorrio old town, San Agustín, a hotel, a company or the booked address. The exact fare is confirmed before the journey.
The transfer is arranged around the final address rather than simply the municipality of Elorrio. This is particularly relevant for destinations outside the historic centre.
Providing the street, hotel or company address when booking helps identify the correct final section of the journey.
The Gerediaga–Elorrio corridor connects the AP-8 at Abadiño with the western side of Elorrio, where it joins the bypass. Its total length is 6.44 km and it provides the dedicated connection between the AP-8 corridor and Elorrio.
The route includes the Gaztelua I and Gaztelua II tunnels, together with the Gaztelua artificial tunnel and the Atxondo false tunnel. These structures form part of the road connection normally used from the AP-8 corridor towards Elorrio.
Elorrio is not limited to a single arrival point. Gernikako Arbola and the San Agustín area serve different purposes and should be treated as separate final destinations when arranging a transfer from BIO.
The Town Hall and basilica are located within the historic complex. If your accommodation or meeting point is in this area, providing the exact street address is useful when booking.
San Agustín lies outside the monumental centre and can be the actual destination for passengers travelling from Bilbao Airport.
Hotel Elorrio is located at San Agustín Auzoa 10, outside the main centre. The hotel has a restaurant, landscaped areas and a meeting room. For a business trip, giving the hotel address as the final destination avoids reaching the town centre first and then arranging another journey.
If you are travelling from BIO directly to a meeting or accommodation in San Agustín, the hotel or company should be entered as the final address when the transfer is arranged.
Bizkaibus operates the A3923 Bilbao–Durango–Elorrio motorway service, with stops in Durango, Abadiño and Elorrio. From Bilbao Airport, passengers first need to travel to Bilbao before joining the route to Elorrio. The combined journey currently takes around 2 hours 20 minutes.
For travellers with more time and light luggage, the bus can be considered as an alternative. It is not, however, a direct service from the airport terminal to Elorrio.
The A3923 currently publishes services approximately every hour during a substantial part of the day. For an airport journey, the relevant comparison is the connection through Bilbao versus travelling directly by road.
If your journey continues from Elorrio to Durango, Atxondo, Arrasate or another company or location in the surrounding area, it is useful to plan the complete route rather than treating each stop as a separate airport arrival.
The road from Bilbao does not treat Durango, Eibar, Arrasate and Vitoria-Gasteiz as interchangeable destinations. Each follows a different route or represents a different final section of the journey.
Durango is reached before Elorrio on the route from Bilbao, so the journey does not continue through the entire eastern part of Durangaldea.
Eibar uses the corridor towards Gipuzkoa and does not require travelling into Elorrio.
The route continues towards Gipuzkoa from the Elorrio area and represents a separate interprovincial destination.
Vitoria-Gasteiz follows a different corridor towards Álava and should not be treated as an Elorrio stop by default.
Whether you are heading to the historic centre, San Agustín, a hotel, a company or another address, the final destination determines the last part of the journey from Bilbao Airport.
