Playa de la Concha: La Concha has earned its reputation as the most beautiful urban beach in Europe. It is certainly the purest and most emblematic maritime soul of Donostia. It is 1,300 metres from its border with the Miramar Palace and Ondarreta Beach. The promenade that we can start it, for example, in the municipal council (the old casino) or in the port itself is characterized by its elegance measured in the whites of the railing designed by Juan Rafael Alday and the more than 100 street lights (all different) that mark our way. They are exponents of the modernism and elegance that at the beginning of the 20th century began to draw a city whose fame already crossed borders.
Ondarreta: When Ondarreta beach merges with the last land border of La Concha Bay we have at our disposal one of the masterpieces of the Basque sculptor Eduardo Chillida. It is a set of 3 large pieces of steel on the rocks entitled "The Wind Comb" that has been cleaning the horizons of the Bay of Biscay for more than three decades. A jocular Chillida once said that "the sea has to enter San Sebastian already combed", after contemplating the force of the waves undulating their crests and blowing the white foam making sparks on the breaker.
Monte Igueldo: The funiculars that have been operating since 1912 take you to the top of Monte Igueldo. It is really cheap (3'75 ? round trip and children up to 7 years old 2,50 ?, they leave every quarter of an hour and open daily, except in winter when they close on Wednesdays) and it allows us to access the best panoramic terraces from which to contemplate and photograph perfectly the Bay of La Concha. Whether the day is sunny or not, it is worth getting here, if only to enjoy the views and understand how the beautiful city of San Sebastian is structured.
Going for pintxos in the Old Town: Sightseeing is great. But it is true that it is very tiring. To recover your strength and experience the quintessence of San Sebastian, the best thing to do is to observe what people do when it is time to eat (or rather, have an aperitif), to go out for pintxos. The old town has such a density of bars per square metre that one does not know where to start. The best thing to do is to see if there are people inside and let yourself be seduced by a well-stocked bar with real gastronomic works of art to be accompanied by a txikito (small glass of wine) or a zurito (short beer) as is tradition.
La Perla: We do not leave the Belle Époque for a second to go to another of its most representative places. In 1912 a Spa was founded in the heart of La Concha beach known as "La Perla del Océano" so that the European high society, starting with Queen Maria Cristina, would come to enjoy the properties of seawater hydrotherapy. After living a moment full of therapeutic advances applied to relaxation and even the cure of diseases, it closed to be a living ruin for decades.
